Models for this production:
A rough white model - early in the design process.
A rough CG model. Yes, it's really rough. Remember, this was grad school in 1998...Amazon.com was an upstart.
The finished, full model.

Notes:
Set in the
early 1980's in an upper middle class neighborhood, the set for this
show takes on added responsibility as Janeen, who this
house reflects, has committed suicide. We meet Janeen only
sparingly
in flashback scenes and thus the set must reflect all that brought
Janeen
to her untimely death. In designing the space, it needed to
reflect
the wealth that a young doctor (Janeen's husband) would have. It
needed
to reflect the taste and style that Janeen was said to have.
Above
all, however, it needed to reflect Janeen's aching loneliness.
Her
emptiness. The overall layout of the ground plan was developed in
conjunction
with the director and his desire for levels and obstacles for the
actors
to work with. Also, since the entire cast is African-American,
attention
had to be paid to the background (mostly the walls) so that they would
not
be too bright as to draw undue attention, but not be too dark, so as to
blend
in with the skin tones of the actors.
